Breast cancer is by far the most common cancer which occurs in Indian women. The commonest reason to suspect breast cancer in Indian women is when They begin to feel a palpable lump in their breast. Women commonly experience this especially while they are doing their routine household things.

Commonly in our country, after this is established, women are recommended to do a SonoMammography of their Breast. The report which comes out usually gives a prediction score. Itโ€™s called as the BIRADs score. The score of 4 and 5 is suspicious of a malignancy or an underlying Breast Cancer. Following this the women are typically recommended to undergo a biopsy. Breast biopsy is an office based procedure which is done under local anaesthesia and ultrasound guidance. It is done under sterile precautions and after that you can immediately go back to your routine. A short course of painkillers and antibiotics might be prescribed simultaneously.

The tissue is typically obtained in the form of cores and are sent for HistoPathological analysis along with IHC or Immuno Histochemistry testing. Testing involves assessment of the Estrogen Receptors (ER), Progesterone Receptors (PR), Her 2- neu Receptors and other markers.

These reports usually take 7 to 8 days. Based on the final reports and the supportive PET Scans, the further treatment and plan of action is decided on a case to case basic.
