Deepa Magge, MD, FACS, Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, Nashville, TN, comments on the management of appendix cancer, an uncommon cancer with an increasing rate of incidence. A majority of patients will have mucinous tumors and an appendectomy is often provided in patients with low grade tumors. Cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) are offered for patients with differentiated tumors, whereas a right hemicolectomy is recommended for patients with moderately or poorly differentiated tumors. This interview took place virtually at the 2022 Great Debates & Updates in Gastrointestinal Malignancies Congress.
