From 2015 to 2019, the National Cancer Centre Singapore saw more than 2600 young persons newly diagnosed with cancer. Between 2021-2022, Dr Evelyn Wong and her team in Adolescents and Young Adults Oncology visited 4 young adults across Singapore to capture their individual stories and unique voices. AYAOs need specialised teams, treatments, spaces, support and research to improve their experiences and survival.

Learning about a cancer diagnosis is difficult for anyone - even more so for young adults in their prime. The Adolescents and Young Adult Oncology (AYAO) aims to improve cancer care for patients between 16-45 years old. We look into their needs beyond the usual medical aspects, building young adult friendly environments, developing standards for age-targeted care and hoping to improve collaborations between pediatric and adult specialists.
