Step-by-step surgery - Whipple procedure for pancreatic cancer - Uncinate process dissection
In a Whipple surgery or Whipple procedure for pancreatic cancer or pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor, Hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeons in Mumbai, Dr. Prasad Wagle and Dr. Gunjan Desai demonstrate their technique of uncinate process of pancreas dissection. Dissecting the uncinate process of the pancreas involves careful dissection and removal of the tissue in that region.
In this video, we are going to show you a step-by-step surgery for pancreatic cancer - the Whipple procedure. I'll also be demonstrating the Uncinate process dissection.
If you're interested in learning about surgery for pancreatic cancer, then this video is for you! We'll walk you through the Whipple procedure and Uncinate process dissection, step-by-step. This surgery is one of the most common procedures used to treat pancreatic cancer, and it's a relatively straightforward procedure. We hope you find this video helpful!
Dissecting the uncinate process of the pancreas involves careful dissection and removal of the tissue in that region. The uncinate process is a hook-shaped extension of the pancreas located behind the superior mesenteric vessels. It is attached to the head of the pancreas and extends toward the right side of the abdomen. The surgeon gently mobilizes the uncinate process by dividing any ligaments or attachments into adjacent structures, especially the mesopancreas.
Once the uncinate process is adequately mobilized, the surgeon carefully dissects the tissue around it. This involves using a combination of sharp dissection (using scissors or a scalpel) and blunt dissection (using forceps or a bipolar energy source) to separate the tissue planes. As the dissection proceeds, the surgeon ensures proper hemostasis by controlling any bleeding vessels encountered during the dissection.
This video is an excellent demonstration of a very crucial step in the Whipple procedure the uncinate dissection and is a must-watch for all surgeons performing this surgery.
