Scott’s Story: Rectal Cancer, Stage II Treated with da Vinci Robot Surgery
It started with blood in his stool. And then a diagnosis.
"They were very straight forward with me: you've got a cancer," Scott recalls his doctors saying.
Scott was diagnosed with Rectal Cancer, Stage II, which is highly curable when caught early enough. He was treated with radiation and the da Vinci robotic surgery by the surgeons at Kendrick. Only 3 percent of rectal cancer surgery in the United States is performed using the da Vinci robot, which allowed for a smaller incision, faster recovery and eliminated the need for a permanent colostomy. "To me it was a no-brainer."
"My advice would be, if you think something's wrong listen to what you feel might be going wrong and do something about it. It's important to not ignore certain things and I know I am really thankful I didn't ignore that particular sign that I'd gotten."
