Role of Research in Radiation Medicine for Extremity Soft Tissue Sarcoma
Colleen Dickie MRTT
The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto, Canada
Multimodality discussion is necessary for Soft Tissue Sarcoma management. Radiotherapy plays an essential role in multidisciplinary management. In this session, the role of clinical research in the Radiation Medicine Program at The Princess Margaret will be discussed for Extremity Soft Tissue Sarcoma radiation therapy or RT. The evolution of treatment from a parallel opposed pair of RT fields, to a 3D Image-guided intensity-modulated RT approach will be discussed supported by evidence generated through clinical research initiatives. The change in immobilization for CT simulation, and the development of evidence based IMRT planning objectives for target and normal structures will be outlined relative to a series of retrospective and prospective studies.
