This video is presented by Dr.S.Nithiyananda, school medical officer, in the the purpose of educating the parents,students and teachers about the importance of HPV vaccination in srilanka.
Globally, cervical cancer is the second commonest cause of cancer deaths among women. World Health Organization has documented that in the year 2006,
Cervical cancer is identified as the second most common cancer among women in Sri Lanka and approximately 7.74 million women are included in the risk category. It is reported that nearly 850 die from cervical cancer each yearHuman Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is introduced in to the National Immunization Programme from July 2017, aiming for primary prevention of cervical cancers in Sri Lanka.
The HPV vaccine protects against nine strains of human papillomavirus which can cause cervical and some other cancers, and genital warts. Protection is long-lasting, so immunisation at age 11-12 protects well into adulthood. s, the vaccine is given in two doses, which be at least 6 months apart.
