Suboccipital craniotomy for a large posterior fossa pilocytic astrocytoma. Pilocytic astrocytomas, also known as juvenile pilocytic astrocytomas, are low-grade, well-defined astrocytomas that commonly affect children and adolescents. The tumour may take the shape of a cyst with a mural nodule or a solid mass as outlined above and does not generally spread to surrounding tissues. The size and location of the tumour influence the symptoms.
