Milicent's journey with DAW has been quite special. Here is what she had to say;

‘I met Grace in 2018 at Dee's salon. I remember being invited by my friend Sally and telling her I couldn't attend because I had no transport. Sally paid for me. It was the beginning of a great journey for me. Grace was warm and I remember her crying when I told her my story. She hugged me so tight and I knew we'd be connected for a long time. When the makeover was over Grace invited us to a Womens’ Personal Development Program. I went to see her and she gave me all the details.

On the day of the program although I was still going through chemo, I made my way. That was the day I found my voice. I remember attending the Vision Board workshop and sharing my concern that there were no support groups in the underprivileged communities in Nairobi. The challenge was put to me to do something about it as I had identified a need. I was nervous but put together a plan at the workshop and was determined to carry it out. In a week's time I went to my local hospital who gave me a room where I was able to run a support group every week. Fast forward to today we are a registered Community Based Organization in Nairobi with over 120 members working hand in hand with DAW to deliver support services to the women in Kariobangi. I was so excited and had to phone Grace who has become a mentor to me. It's not just the wig I received, I also found my voice.

To date I have met the President and First Lady of Kenya, been interviewed on various media platforms and am the face of cervical cancer awareness in Kenya. I can now encourage other women and let them know that they have a voice and if I can rise up and do something so can they with the right support.'

Milicent is now founder of our partner charity in Kenya - ‘Symbol of Hope’. We are incredibly proud of the journey Milicent has come on with us, and the one she has continued herself.

Thank you so much Milicent - you're are an inspiration!
