Liver cancer, also known as hepatic cancer, is a type of cancer that starts in the cells of the liver. Symptoms of liver cancer may include abdominal pain, a lump or swelling in the abdomen, weight loss, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, weakness or fatigue, and yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes (jaundice). These symptoms can also be caused by other conditions, so it is important to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis.

Liver cancer can be difficult to detect in its early stages because it often does not cause any symptoms. It is usually found during a routine medical exam or when a person is being evaluated for another condition. Risk factors for liver cancer include chronic infection with the hepatitis B or C virus, alcohol abuse, a family history of liver cancer, and certain inherited liver diseases such as hemochromatosis and Wilson's disease.

Treatment for liver cancer may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or a combination of these treatments. The type of treatment recommended will depend on the stage and type of liver cancer, as well as the person's overall health. In some cases, a liver transplant may be an option.
