Jody and her family went through something that no family ever should. The loss of a son, a brother and a friend. Danny was diagnosed with a astrocytoma spinal cord tumor (cancer) when he was nine years old. After his first fight enduring both chemo and full cranial and spinal radiation, “the beast” as he nicknamed it, returned two more times within ten years. Despite losing most of his sight and balance along this journey, he smiled every day. In March of 2012, the cancer returned for 3rd and final time. He restarted treatment and was so strong and courageous, never losing his sense of humor and never forgetting to laugh. Danny lost his battle in 2014 after more than 13 years of fighting.
The Hammond family take Danny's positive outlook, spirit and sense of humor with them everyday. They remember the good times they had together and have ahead, keeping Danny's memory alive. To be in the presence of the Hammond family is to truly witness courage, love, and the importance of laughter.
