– In this 1.5-minute video Dr Meena Rafiq explains:
– Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) diagnosis is challenging
– Only 1/3 of patients present with typical red-flag symptoms
– This study aimed to identify early signals of HL in blood tests
– 70% had an inflammatory marker (IM) blood test the year before diagnosis
– 13-fold increase in IM requests in the year leading up to diagnosis
– 2/3 of HL patients had at least one abnormal IM result
– ESR, CRP and platelet levels increased 7-12 months before HL diagnosis
– One abnormality on its own is unlikely to be cancer
– Combining these results with other sources may speed referral
