Eight-year-old baby Komal came to Dr. Mandeep’s team at the Department of #Oncology of the CK Birla Hospital. There were multiple complications for which they found no treatments and most doctors could not identify the root cause of her complications at all. Here with the right diagnostics and proper investigations, she was diagnosed with #ewingsarcoma, a cancer predominantly found in children.
But there was hope, as ewing’s sarcoma has a good response to chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The cancer had spread all over her face and she was at risk of losing her eye at such a tender age. Post surgery her face had to be altered to make her cancer-free. The multidisciplinary support at the CK Birla Hospital led to the onboarding of the plastic surgery team. With their combined efforts Komal’s facial defects were covered and reconstructed.
But above all, the main reason why baby Komal was cancer free was her strong will power. Coming from a not too well to do family, she did everything possible to battle hard against her life threatening disease.
