Hereditary Breast & Ovarian Cancer Week: What is a Previvor?
*What is a Previvor?*
As part of Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer week (September 28th –Oct 4th), Wednesday October 1st was Previvor Day.
Previvors are individuals with a predisposition to cancer but who have not had the disease. People with a hereditary mutation, a family history of cancer, or some other predisposing factor are previvors.
Join Author Dina Roth Port and FORCE's Vice President of Education Lisa Rezende as we discuss the issues previvors face.
Previvors are a diverse group who face decisions about managing their cancer risk. Some grow up knowing that there is a strong family history of breast or ovarian cancer.
Others may be surprised to find out that there is a hereditary cancer mutation in their family.
In all cases, individuals find themselves negotiating the healthcare system and facing decisions about medical care and cancer prevention.
If you come from a family with strong history of cancer or a known mutation in a gene associated with cancer, please watch this.
