Emily's Cancer Survival Story: Beating Non-Germinomatous Germ Cell Tumor
When Emily Freeman was only 13 years old, she was diagnosed with a non-germinomatous germ cell tumor located on the hypothalamus and optic nerve in her brain. Texas Children's Cancer Center drafted a treatment plan for Emily including 6 rounds of chemotherapy and 33 days of proton radiation. Emily suffered side effects from the treatments, but she never quit fighting. Through the Purple Songs Can Fly program at Texas Children's Cancer Center, Emily recorded three songs and had a chance to perform a song at Carnegie Hall in New York City. On December 22, 2009, Emily crossed the finish line of treatment. She just celebrated 3 years cancer free.
