This is an example of a typical electrodesiccation session for neurofibromatosis. In reality, ED is combined with surgical excision of larger neurofibromas. Typically, these sessions last approximately 3 hours under general anesthesia and are done as an outpatient procedure. Approximately 200-500 small tumors can be treated in one session. Depending on the severity and clustering of the skin tumors, one or more sessions may be required to treat all surfaces that are involved. In some cases, electrodesiccation may be used to "touch up" previously treated areas.
