Worldwide, among all the causes of gynaecological cancers, cancer of endometrium is a leading cause of cancer in women. Its frequency is increasing rapidly in India as well. In urban areas, Endometrial Cancer is the leading cause of cancers in females. Let us understand what are the common cause of Endometrial Cancer

Causes of Endometrial Cancer
1-Due to the changing lifestyle, these three things are very common :
1. Obesity
2. Diabetes
3. Hypertension
These three are called as corpus cancer syndrome. If a lady is obese, due to the fat, there is the excessive conversion of the hormone estrogen. This hormone then acts on the uterus, it causes chronic thickening of the uterine lining. This at the later stage leads to endometrial cancer.

2- The other causes include chemotherapeutic agents like oral tamoxifen which are given for long term period, especially in the case of breast cancer.

3- The other causes could be hereditary or genetic causes but they are not common as causes listed above.

Postmenopausal bleeding.
Whenever we talk about endometrial cancer it is important to understand Post Menopausal bleeding. In our country, most of the ladies will attain menopause at around the age of 53. After menopause having bleeding is called as Postmenopausal bleeding.
This is a warning sign of having cancer of the endometrium. The 1st Postmenopausal bleeding should be the warning sign and the patient should be evaluated for cancer of the endometrium. Whenever a patient will have Postmenopausal bleeding the doctor will always recommend an ultrasound and will note down the endometrial thickness. If the endometrial thickness in the post-menopausal lady is more than 4mm than a biopsy is mandatory in order to check the presence of endometrial cancer.

Once we understand the cause of endometrial cancer we can divide these malignancies into two important subtypes i.e. Group-1 and Group-2
Group-1 of endometrial cancer consists of the women who are obese, having diabetes or hypertension and having thickened endometrium lining and usually manifest early in the menopause. These women are generally in their '60s.
Group-2 of endometrial cancer consists of the women who do not have thick endometrium and it will be very aggressive in nature.
