Carpool Karaoke - Music and Breast Cancer Awareness
Stage2 male breast cancer survivor Michael Catherwood sings "Wagon Wheel" by Old Crow Medicine Show in this version of carpool karaoke, which included oncologist Dr. Stephen Lemon and singer Kiana Meradith, who lent her fine guitar and vocal skills to the ride along. A faculty member at Creighton University, Mike shares what it was like to go through breast cancer as a male. He also emphasizes the importance of breast cancer awareness as a disease that affects men too. Visit http://www.oacancer.com/carpool to see other cancer survivors sing their #CarpoolKaraoke songs.
Research shows that music has a place in not only helping patients cope with pain, but also providing physical and mental health benefits. Inspired by the Late Late Show with James Cordon Carpool Karaoke series, Oncology Associates created their version to highlight how music can play a role in the cancer journey.
The risk of getting breast cancer in men is about 1 in 1,000. While this risk is considerably lower than it is for women, breast cancer is a disease that men should be aware of as it can happen to them.
Over 2,300 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in men this year. The cancer treatment for men with breast cancer is the same as it is for women. And, much like it is for women, the earlier the cancer can be detected the more likely it is that treatment can help.
