Signs and symptoms / Risk factors
Treatment of canker sores
• Antimicrobial mouthwash containing chlorhexidine 0.2% , benzydamine mw 0.15%
• Topical Anaesthetics the form of, gel or spray (containing lidocaine/ benzocaine like orabase ointment) Avoid if allergic to it
• Anti – inflammatory / pain relief medicine – ibuprofen (do not take if u r allergic to it / have asthma/ on any steroids/ liver kidney problems/ tummy problems/ taking any other medications. Paracetamol – avoid over dosage as it can cause liver damage
• Nutritional supplements - Vit b12 , zinc , folate , iron

When to see you dentist ?
If your mouth ulcer :-
• lasts longer than 3 weeks
• keeps coming back
• Develop high fever / diarrhoea
• becomes extremely painful and red – this may be a sign of an infection
Apart from these
The appearance of red and white patches in the mouth, unusual lumps or swellings in the head and neck , persistently coarse voice are all warning signs.
