Cancer Update #14. Gruffy is my happy place.
This update was filmed on Monday the 26th of June, 2023 in and around Byford, Western Australia.
Gruffy is an 11 year old Boer Goat. He is the best pet I have ever had the privilege to share a life with. If you have the right property, and don't mind absolutely everything being nibbled on, if not completely consumed, then please consider a Boer Goat.
I also found him great as a fox deterrent. I even found humans that would refuse to come onto my property until I put him in another paddock. So they are great as security guards too.
If introduced when they are young, then they are very tolerant of other animals. Gruffy grew up with dogs, and later horses. He really enjoys their company, and they his.
Drainage journal:
21/4/23. Done with a small calibre needle without interventional radiology (IR), but did use a bedside ultrasound. 20ml drained before blockage. The initial thought was that the blockage was due to loculations (pockets of fluid, rather than a single 'bag' of fluid).
9/5/23. Assessment made for a second drain without IR. Bedside ultrasound showed no loculations, but lots of mucin. The attempt was aborted, as the doctor determined that IR was required.
19/5/23. Drain done with 14 French needle with IR. 2.8 litres drained before blockage from mucin.
8/6/23. Drain done with 8.5 French needle with IR. 1.5 litres drained before blockage from mucin.
18/6/23. Drain done via laparoscopy incision. 7.0 litres drained without blockage. The surgeon estimated he got 90% of the ascites out, which is par for the course.
