When any woman manifests with a lump in the breast, first thing we have to think is whether it is cancer. But we know that out of 10 lumps only one is cancerous and other 9 lumps in the breast are non cancerous three are certain clinical conditions where we know it is a cancerous lump. Infiltration to the skin, and peau d'orange we call it, large lumps, retraction of the nipple, bloody discharge from the nipples. All this results we know it can be a cancerous lump. Most often cancerous lumps can be stony hard except in mucinous adenocarcinomas of the breast. In other conditions most of then they are stony hard and they are not mobile. Whereas in benign breast lumps they are freely mobile all over the breast and they are multiple lumps all over the breast and they vary in size and shape. So we have to evaluate these lesions by doing scans, mammograms and do biopsy. Most important is to do a TRU CUT biopsy because benign lumps can be fibroadenomas, it could be phyllodes tumor. Phyllodes tumor, always whatever is the size we have to remove it , whereas in fibroadenomas and we operate them when they are more than 3 cms in size. So TRU CUT biopsy is going to help us further with the treatment.
