AIT 2023 - INTERPRETING ABOUT THE AUTISTIC SPECTRUM DISORDER ASD IN A PSI CONTEXT
Abstract:
Interpreters receive little to no briefing and sometimes assignments are harder than expected to tackle. Children with autism, learning disabilities and learning difficulties receive help from a multi-disciplinary team that includes psychologists, teachers, paediatricians, psychiatrists, speech and language therapists and social workers that can meet to discuss the child’s progress and a plan forward.
The talk will cover the following:
• What is autism?
• What is a learning difficulty?
• What is a learning disability?
• The road to diagnosis
• The multi-disciplinary team
• Education arrangements
• Acronyms and jargon
