Researchers at Queen's University Belfast looked at data on 475,766 people. They examined conditions like swollen or bleeding gums, oral ulcers and loose teeth, alongside the risk of a number of gastrointestinal cancers, including liver cancer.

The liver assists in removing bacteria from the body. When someone has liver cancer, its function will decline causing bacteria to live longer. This extended lifespan may have the potential to cause more harm.

With this cancer research study they discovered a strong positive relationship, which means that liver cancer and gum disease, also known as periodontitis, can be closely linked.

Gum disease has been linked to so many other inflammatory diseases including diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, Rheumatoid arthritis, pancreatic cancer, Lung cancer, Colon cancer, Kidney cancer... the list goes on and on.
