For 7 years I have known I carry the genetic mutation CDH1. It has taken me this long to come to terms with the realization the I need to have my stomach removed. April 2021 I had a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy, also due to this mutation. Once my stomach is removed I will be done with these life saving procedures. Follow along with me as I share with you every detail leading up to my surgery and my recovery going forward. To say that I am afraid is an understatement but I am putting tools in place to help me cope and I have an amazing support system. My hope in being open and vulnerable with my journey is that I might be able to help another person faced with this same difficult decision.
*I am not a doctor. This is simply my experience. Please seek the advice from medical professionals for answers regarding surgery such as this.
Sending all my love to each and everyone of you! Thank you so much for your support and encouragement. If there is one thing I've learned through all of this its that we need each other. I am always here for you. Please leave your questions, comments or concerns in the comment section below and I promise to get back to you! -Polly
