RADIOLOGY OF DIFFUSE ASTROCYTOMAS

HCA is a tumoral lesion, often cystic and with a mural nodule, that occurs commonly within the cerebellum, but it may occur all over the central nervous system. It has a slow growth rate and is classified as grade I by the World Health Organization. It is most common in pediatric population and represents 10% to 15% of all pediatric brain tumors.

This video is part of a multi-part series reviewing new changes incorporated into the new 5th edition of the WHO classification of tumors of the central nervous system. This video utilizes a case-based format to review important changes in the classification of IDH-mutant and IDH-wildtype diffuse gliomas.

Patient was a 28-year-old male with history of a single seizure. Biopsy identified the parietal mass to be a gemistocytic astrocytoma.
