Urethral stricture can commonly occur after radiation for prostate cancer. This developed a severe recurrent stricture after battling prostate cancer and required numerous visits to the emergency room for an inability to urinate. He was repeatedly dilated, but these dilation only offered temporary relief. Ultimately, he required a suprapubic tube (a drainage tube placed directly in the person's bladder). He was seen by several doctors and was ultimately referred to Dr. Gelman by a UCLA Urologist. He underwent a successful open urethroplasty 8 years ago, and has not required treatment subsequently.
