Nelson Leung, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, shares the key results of a study investigating the long-term outcomes of renal transplantation in patients with AL amyloidosis. Overall, the study demonstrated that patients who reached a very good partial response (VGPR) or better had an improved survival, suggesting that patients with kidney failure who do not have significant heart involvement and achieve a VGPR or better after therapy should undergo kidney transplantation. This interview took place at the 19th International Myeloma Society Meeting (IMS) held in Los Angeles, CA.
