Juvenile polyposis syndrome (JPS) is a rare genetic disorder that causes the development of non-cancerous growths (polyps) in the gastrointestinal tract, usually in the colon or rectum. These polyps can cause bleeding, anemia, and abdominal pain. JPS typically presents in childhood or adolescence, but symptoms may not appear until adulthood. JPS is caused by mutations in specific genes that regulate cell growth and division. While most polyps in JPS are benign, some may develop into cancer over time. Regular monitoring and screening is recommended to detect and remove polyps before they become cancerous.
