Cervical cancer occurs when the cells in a woman's-cervix, which connects the uterus and vagina, change. This cancer can affect the deeper tissues of their-cervix and spread to other parts of their body (metastasize), often to the lungs, liver, bladder, vagina, and rectum.Most cases of cervical cancer are caused by infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV), which can be prevented with a vaccine. Cervical cancer grows slowly, so it usually has time to be detected and treated before it causes serious problems. It can be detected in time through Pap tests. सर्वाइकल कैंसर एक ऐसा खतरनाक बीमारी है जिसका अगर समय रहते पता ना लगाया जाए तो जान भी जा सकती है। शोध की मानें तो 35 से 44 वर्ष की महिलाओं को इसके होने की संभावना सबसे अधिक होती है। 15% से अधिक नए मामले 65 वर्ष से अधिक उम्र की महिलाओं में हैं, जिसका कारण समय पर जांच ना हो पाना है। सर्वाइकल कैंसर तब होता है जब महिलाओं के गर्भाशय ग्रीवा में कोशिकाएं बदल जाती हैं, जो गर्भाशय और योनि को जोड़ती हैं। यह कैंसर उनके गर्भाशय ग्रीवा के गहरे ऊतकों को प्रभावित कर सकता है और उनके शरीर के अन्य भागों (मेटास्टेसाइज़), अक्सर फेफड़े, यकृत, मूत्राशय, योनि और मलाशय में फैल सकता है। सर्वाइकल कैंसर के अधिकांश मामले ह्यूमन पैपिलोमावायरस (एचपीवी) के संक्रमण के कारण होते हैं, जिसे टीके से रोका जा सकता है। सर्वाइकल कैंसर धीरे-धीरे बढ़ता है, इसलिए आमतौर पर गंभीर समस्याओं का कारण बनने से पहले इसका पता लगाने और इसका इलाज करने का समय होता है। पैप परीक्षणों के जरिए इसका समय रहते पता लगाया जा सकता है। इसके अलावा कुछ लक्षण भी है, जिन्हें पहचानकर आप समय रहते कैंसर से बचाव कर सकती हैं।
