Eileen Rakovitch, MD, MSc, FRCPC, Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre, Toronto, Canada, discusses a study aiming to improve our understanding of the impact of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) diagnosis on the patients’ general wellbeing. It is known that women diagnosed with DCIS may overestimate their risk of cancer recurrence, which may lead to development of anxiety and depression. This population analysis study found that while post-diagnosis, the patients had higher rates of surgical procedures than prior to it, no difference in physician visits or hospitalizations related to anxiety was found when compared to the control population. This interview was recorded via an online conference call with The Video Journal of Oncology (VJOncology).
