Regular exercise and a healthy diet can play an important role in the prevention of prostate cancer. But these healthy habits have to start early.

What's more important I think from a lifestyle perspective is your children and your younger people because we think the whole process of cancer actually starts early on and where lifestyle changes and dietary changes have really shown to have an impact is early on as we're building our bodies in our teens, in our 20s and that's where it can make a difference. So and not to take the wind out of the sails, physical exercise is important. There is actually a study that came out published in the—I think it was JAMA or New England journal that showed that men who survive prostate cancer who exercise a certain amount—do you remember that I can't remember I think it's maybe 20 minutes of intense activity three times a week or something had better survival that those who did not. So it can make a difference, but if you're looking for big changes it's got to start early.

In this video, Dr. Praveen Kammar will give us information about the foods that should be consumed when one is suffering from stomach cancer.

Stomach cancer is an abnormal growth of cells that begins in the stomach. Stomach cancer, also known as gastric cancer, can affect any part of the stomach. In most of the world, stomach cancers form in the main part of the stomach.

00:33 - Causes of stomach cancer.
Genetic factors: Genetic factors can be a cause of stomach cancer and cannot be controlled by any external means.
Environmental factors: Factors such as air pollution, pollution due to chemicals, water pollution, etc can be a cause of stomach cancer and cannot be controlled either.
Personal factors: These include the type of lifestyle one leads, the food that one eats, and other factors that can be controlled by an individual.

02:03 - Which foods can be eaten to avoid stomach cancer? / foods to avoid in stomach cancer
To avoid stomach cancer, one should avoid ill habits such as smoking, drinking, and other addictions. Caffeine should be avoided as well. Additionally, consumption of red meats should be avoided or should be reduced.

Foods that provide anti-oxidants, vitamin A and C, and are nutritious are advised for consumption to avoid stomach cancer. Foods such as citrus fruits, green leafy vegetables, and fruits that provide the body with vitamins and other macro-nutrients should be consumed.

In addition to eating healthy food, one must exercise daily and regularly. Seven hours of sleep is also advised by doctors to prevent stomach cancer.

During chemotherapy, healthy food such as green leafy vegetables and fruits, citrus fruits should be eaten and all the practices that should be avoided such as smoking, drinking alcohol, drinking caffeine, and eating red meat should be done.

The individual going through chemotherapy should eat these things in shorter intervals of time and in smaller quan****ies. Avoiding eating things that an individual likes during this period is advised as chemotherapy can lead to vomiting sensation and vomiting. This can create a dislike for the foods that one likes.

06:05 - Diet after stomach cancer surgery
Patients should eat everything that is advised during the earlier stages of the treatment such as citrus fruits and green leafy vegetables. In addition to that, one must have 8-9 smaller meals in a day instead of larger meals as most part of the stomach is removed during the surgery. The quan****y may improve with time. One must be cautious not to drink water while eating food. One must avoid sweet food and food which is highly processed. A rest of 15-20 minutes is advised after every meal as weakness and stomachache are observed in patients post-surgery. Additionally, one must take supplements of iron, vitamin b12, and calcium.
