What is a GIST Tumor

A gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is a common mesenchymal tumor of the gastrointestinal tract, making up 1 to 3 percent of all gastrointestinal malignancies. GIST tumors are caused by mutations in the Kit gene or PDGFRA gene.
