This is a short treatment outcome awareness video of a limb salvage surgery for bone cancer(sarcoma).
Osteosarcoma is an aggressive bone cancer. Multi-modality treatment is recommended with early initiation, which involves combination of chemotherapy and surgery. Large volume tumours pose a challenge to save the limb due to involvement of critical structures. Good response to chemotherapy plays an important role in limb salvage surgery in such situations.
This young adult underwent tumor resection followed by reconstruction with cemented fixed hinge tumour prosthesis due to tumour volume and inferior bone quality. This modality of reconstruction enables walking from next day of surgery. A personalized rehabilitation program is then followed to achieve best results.
