Thymectomy can be done by open surgery or minimally invasive surgery (thoracoscopy or robotic). This reduces the compliacations and makes recovery simpler.
Roughly 10 percent of patients with a condition called myasthenia gravis have a thymoma, or a tumor on the thymus gland. They greatly benefit from this surgery.
