The role of biomarkers in soft tissue sarcoma treatment and research

Emanuela Palmerini, MD, Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli, Bologna, Italy, outlines how biomarkers are utilized as prognostic tools in the field of soft tissue sarcomas. Unlike in the past, current knowledge of different subclasses of soft tissue sarcomas and their unique biomarkers should inform the choice between different treatment options and encourage the design of subclass-specific trials.
