This video is about ocular surface squamous neoplasia (OSSN). This condition is essentially skin cancer of the eye. This is due to a combination of sun damage to cellular DNA and aging. The gold standard treatment for OSSN is excisional biopsy with large margins using specific surgical techniques and/or topical treatment with mitomycin C (MMC), 5-fluorouracil (5FU), or Interferon alpha - 2b. The topical treatment for OSSN with any of these chemotherapeutic agents is becoming a more accepted first-line treatment as a solo treatment or prior to surgery to reduce tumor size. There may be other ways they are being used. This video is specifically to outline the steps of excisional biopsy of OSSN. The subsequent defect of the conjunctiva is covered with BioTissue's amniotic membrane adhered to the scleral with Tissel's fibrin glue.
