We highlight to you colon/rectal cancer which is one of the least talked about cancer in PNG. Many people do not know that many Papua New Guineans are suffering from this cancer. The PNG Stoma Association founded by an ostomate Janet Yaki aims to create awareness on colon cancer in the country.

Colostomy and ileostomy are very big complicated medical terms. These in laymen terms are cuts made on the abdominal wall during surgery to have an alternative outlet for waste, especially faeces. The cut is known as a stoma. We also discuss how stoma bags are vital for ostomates who have undergone colostomy surgery.
