OKC is derived from the remanants of dental lamina. OKC is quiet similar to the benign neoplasm due to aggressive growth and high recurrence rate. OKC is also named as Keratocystic odontogenic tumor. In 2/3rd of the cases OKC is present in mandible with the most common location being the posterior border and the ramus area. Multiple OKC might be associated with Nevoid basal cell carcinoma.
Histopathology:
• Epithelium is parakeratinized squamous 6 to 10 cell layer in thickness.
• Areas of focal seperation of epithelium from underlying connective tissue.
• Basal cells of epithelium are columnar to cuboidal.
• Corrugated parakeratin is present on the luminal surface of cyst.
• Presence of Daughter cyst within connective tissue capsule.
