We spoke about what melanoma looks like, but it's important to make sure you understand what non-melanoma skin cancer looks like. Basal cell carcinomas often appear on sun-exposed areas as a shiny bump, especially around the nose or around the eyelids. It may have blood vessels growing on it, which is an important clue to notice.

Oftentimes, they spontaneously or easily bleed. So a persistent bleeding spot can be a sign of a basal cell carcinoma. Squamous cell carcinomas present as persistently scaly, rough skin, again in sun-exposed areas. A red bump with attached scale or flakes is important to notice, as this could be a sign of squamous cell carcinoma.
