Dr Lisa Henske discusses the importance of lysosomes in TSC. Lysosomes are tiny components that are found inside human cells. They contain digestive enzymes (types of proteins) which break down excess or worn-out parts of the cell, and if a cell is damaged beyond repair, they can help it to self-destruct in a process called programmed cell death, or apoptosis.
Presented as part of the International TSC Research Conference 2021, especially for the TSC community.
