Paul Bernard Romesser, MD, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY, talks on concerns regarding the use of short-course radiation in patients with rectal cancer. Whilst short-course radiation improved outcomes in the Phase III RAPIDO trial (NCT01558921), further studies suggests bowel function is worse in these group of patients, despite higher rates of organ preservation. This interview took place at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2023 Gastrointestinal Cancers (GI) Symposium in San Francisco, CA.
