GISTs (Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors)

This video covers the basic features of GISTs. We start by understanding the acronym and reviewing the key differences between tumors of connective tissue (sarcomas) and the epithelium (adenocarcinomas). We then review the underlying cell that mutates to become a GIST (the ICC), and what unique features these cells have. Finally, we review staging, treatment, and principles of surgery and discuss how the previously discussed qualities of GISTs are reflected in their management.
