FCI Feb 2021 Seminar: Thyroid Cancer and Firefighters

Thyroid Cancer is a cancer like no other, in the sense that its risk factors aren't fully known, and the types of thyroid cancers behave differently. When it comes to firefighters, research shows that there is an elevated risk of thyroid cancer compared to non-firefighters.

While flame retardants containing PBDEs have been associated with that cancer risk, there's still a lot that we don't know about the relationship between thyroid cancers and firefighter workplace exposures.
