Dissecting Molecular Biomarkers Underlying Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma towards Therapeutics | RI

Currently, most Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients are diagnosed at late stages and usually present with poor prognosis, as current therapeutics for NPC are not effective. Unfortunately, the knowledge of NPC pathogenesis, including molecular mechanisms of recurrent or metastatic of NPC is very limited. Hence understanding the molecular mechanisms of NPC pathogenesis and progression and search for novel therapeutic targets are warranted.
“Dissecting Molecular Biomarkers Underlying Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma towards Therapeutics” is the research to develop an effective strategy for control and treatment of the disease. Hence, it is very interesting to characterize their role and its corresponding target genes in NPC pathogenesis and progression as well as to identify targeted drugs with the hope that in the a few years to come, researchers will be in a position to understand the whole picture of the impact of this molecule in NPC and utilize potential therapeutic agents targeting these molecules.

The goal of this research is to pave the way for clinical trials of approved drugs in NPC in Thailand. The way to understanding the biology of these cancer cells, will be able to design trials that use these drugs in combination to target Thai NPC patients.

The knowledge gained through the proposed research will be useful for the development of chemotherapeutic drugs. This would reduce the side effects compared to traditional chemotherapy and leads to precision medicine in the future.


ในปัจจุบัน ผู้ป่วยโรคมะเร็งหลังโพรงจมูกหรือ NPC ส่วนใหญ่ มักได้รับการวินิจฉัยในระยะสุดท้ายและมักมีการพยากรณ์โรคที่ไม่แม่นยำ เนื่องจากการรักษา NPC ในปัจจุบันนั้นไม่ได้ผล เนื่องจากความรู้ความเข้าใจถึงกลไกการเกิดโรคของ NPC รวมถึงกลไกระดับโมเลกุลของการเกิดซ้ำ หรือการแพร่กระจายของโรคนั้นมีจำกัดมาก ดังนั้น การทำความเข้าใจกลไกระดับโมเลกุลของการเกิดโรค NPC และการเจริญเติบโตของโรค รวมถึงการค้นหาเป้าหมายการรักษาแบบใหม่จึงเป็นสิ่งจำเป็น ที่จะทำให้การรักษาโรคนี้มีความแม่นยำมากยิ่งขึ้น
“Dissecting Molecular Biomarkers Underlying Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma towards Therapeutics” เป็นงานวิจัยเพื่อพัฒนากลยุทธ์ที่มีประสิทธิภาพในการควบคุมและรักษาโรค NPC เป็นการศึกษาเพื่ออธิบายลักษณะบทบาท และระบุยีนเป้าหมายที่เกี่ยวข้องในการเกิดโรค และการเจริญเติบโตของโรค ตลอดจนการระบุยาเป้าหมาย โดยมีความมุ่งหวังว่าในอีกไม่กี่ปีข้างหน้า นักวิจัยจะสามารถเข้าใจภาพรวมของโรค และผลกระทบของโมเลกุล และสามารถใช้การรักษาที่มีประสิทธิภาพในการกำหนดเป้าหมายโมเลกุลเหล่านี้ได้
เป้าหมายของงานวิจัย คือการปูทางเพื่อการทดลองตัวยาที่ได้รับการอนุมัติเพื่อรักษาโรค NPC ในประเทศไทย ซึ่งวิธีการทำความเข้าใจชีววิทยาของเซลล์มะเร็งเหล่านี้ จะสามารถออกแบบการทดลองการใช้ยาเพื่อผู้ป่วย NPC ในประเทศไทย โดยความรู้ที่ได้รับจากโครงการนี้ จะเป็นประโยชน์สำหรับการพัฒนายาเคมีบำบัด ซึ่งจะช่วยลดผลข้างเคียง เมื่อเทียบกับการให้เคมีบำบัดแบบดั้งเดิม และนำไปสู่ตัวยาและการรักษาที่แม่นยำในอนาคต
