Through live illustrations, Mark Kieran, MD, PhD, director of Pediatric Neuro-Oncology at Dana-Farber/Boston Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, gives an overview of pediatric brain and spinal cord tumors.
As Dr. Kieran explains in our Pediatric Playbook series, tumor symptoms are varied and depend where in the brain or spinal cord they are located. Children may show anything from a lack of coordination to visual problems to seizures to limb weakness. Treatment requires expertise in neurosurgery to remove the tumor, as well as radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
The dedicated Brain Tumor team ensures that patients will have the best possible long-term outcomes. At Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s, the majority of patients survive and lead normal lives.
