Matteo Lambertini, MD, PhD, IRCCS AOU San Martino (Ospedale Policlinico San Martino), Genova, Italy, outlines the results of a systematic review and meta-analysis evaluating the chances of pregnancy after breast cancer. This study evaluated the chances of post-treatment pregnancies, the potential for pregnancy/delivery complications to the child as well as any detrimental effect of pregnancy on the survival of the mother. 39 studies were evaluated, encompassing over 8 million women and the key findings suggest that breast cancer survivors are amongst the lowest of cancer survivors likely to become pregnant following treatment, there was no significant increase in congenital malformation observed in the children, however, pregnancy in breast cancer survivors was associated with an increased likelihood of pre-term labor. This interview was recorded via an online conference call with The Video Journal of Oncology (VJOncology).
