The Kenya Medical Research Institute has now recommended the use of a single dose regimen of the Human papillomavirus or HPV vaccine, as Kenya scales up its efforts to eradicate cervical cancer. The recommendation comes on the backdrop of the country missing its HPV vaccination target by almost 70 percent, with a paltry 31 percent of girls aged between 10 and 14 years having completed the HPV vaccination dose. And as Laura Otieno reports, various stakeholders have recommended the upscaling of community education, to enhance the uptake of the vaccine, with a 14-year-old girl in Kisumu leading from the front.
