The most common brainstem tumor is the diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma. These tumors typically present with a fairly brief clinical history, with weakness, gait problems, and cranial nerve findings. They most commonly occur in children aged 6 to 10 years. Histologically, these tumors are fibrillary astrocytomas.
