The types of bladder cancer with particular emphasis on the most common type (urothelial/transitional cell carcinoma). Other types of bladder cancer including adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, sall cell carcinoma and sarcomas are mentioned. The risk factors are discussed including smoking and exposure to arylamines. Risk factors for squamous cell carcinoma (particularly schistosomiasis) and adenocarcinoma (cystitis glandularis and urachal remnant) are also covered. Gross and microscopic images are included such as micropapillary carcinoma, flat cis (carcinoma in situ) and squamous cell carcinoma.
Grading of bladder cancer is explained including the most recent WHO grading system. Growth patterns are covered including flat, papillary, solid and multifocal. This is part of a urological pathology playlist. The videos are particularly useful for pathology trainees and medical students. There are links to the urological pathology playlist and inverted papilloma of the bladder at the end of the video.
