५ ते १० वर्षे वयोगटातील मोठ्या जनावरांमध्ये कर्करोग होतो. परंतु वयस्कर जनावरांतसुद्धा हा आजार आढळतो. मोठ्या जनावरांमध्ये मुख्यतः डोळे, प्रजनन संस्थेचे विविध अवयव, मोठे आतडे आणि शिंगामध्ये; तर छोट्या जनावरांमध्ये तोंड, मलाशय, मूत्राशय, स्तनग्रंथींचा कर्करोग आढळतो. कर्करोग हा पूर्णपणे आनुवंशिक नसला तरी खिल्लार बैलांमध्ये शिंगाचा कर्करोग आढळतो.
